The vet approved dog food recipes created by the VetChef system are individually designed for each dog based on their specific needs and preferences, and we recommend that you use our FREE recipe generator to create personalised recipes for your dog.

The sample homemade dog food recipes shown below are suitable for most dogs, and can be fed as part of a balanced Vet Chef diet plan or alongside a complete dog food.

Beef, Pasta & Broccoli

This simple recipe combines fresh and tasty beef with pasta and broccoli for a great all-rounder meal suitable for dogs of all ages.

Ingredients:

  • 250g Beef (stewing steak or similar)

  • 150g Pasta (any shape, dried)

  • 75g Broccoli

  • 15g Vegetable oil

  • 4g VetChef PureCal Seasoning

  • 1g Fresh Rosemary (optional)

This will make a 1000kcal batch which is enough to feed a 16kg moderately active adult dog for one day.

Directions:

Weigh out the ingredients and then dice the beef and broccoli into pieces suitable for your dog. Put all of the ingredients together in a saucepan and cover with water. Bring to the boil and then turn down the heat and simmer gently for around 15 minutes, stirring regularly. Remove from the heat once the pasta is cooked, drain away any excess water and allow to cool completely before serving

Chicken, Rice & Spinach

A simple but nutritious and tasty recipe with 26% protein, healthy energy from rice and micro-nutrients from spinach.

Ingredients:

  • 300g Chicken mince

  • 175g Rice

  • 50g Spinach

  • 10g Cod liveroil

  • 4g VetChef PureCal Seasoning

This will make a 1000kcal batch which is enough to feed a 16kg moderately active adult dog for one day.

Directions:

Weigh the ingredients, add to a saucepan and cover with a generous layer of water. Bring to the boil and then turn down the heat and simmer gently for around 15 minutes, stirring regularly. Add more water if the mixture becomes too dry during cooking. Remove from the heat once the rice is cooked and most of the water has been absorbed and allow to cool completely before serving

Turkey%2C%20sweet%20potato%20%26%20courg

Turkey & sweet potato

A hearty turkey stew with fresh courgette and sweet potato, plus nutrient boosts from brewer's yeast, cod liver oil and dried oregano.

Ingredients:

  • 450g Turkey breast

  • 550g Sweet potato

  • 150g Courgette

  • 10g Brewer's Yeast

  • 2g VetChef PureCal Seasoning

  • 1 tsp dried oregano (optional)

This will make a 1000kcal batch which is enough to feed a 16kg moderately active adult dog for one day.

Directions:

With the ingredients weighed out, chop up the courgette and sweet potato into small pieces and put everything in a saucepan. Cover with water, bring to the boil and then turn down the heat and simmer gently for around 15 minutes, stirring regularly. Remove from the heat once the sweet potato is soft, drain away any excess water (unless your dog enjoys a thin gravy, in which case you can serve the recipe with the liquid) and allow to cool completely before serving
